Kingstone Press Championship: Sunday round-up
Sunday 3 July 2016 20:51, UK
Bradford are in danger of missing out on a top-four finish in the Championship after going down 22-20 to leaders Leigh.
A late try from former Featherstone and Salford loose forward Reni Maitua condemned the Bulls to a heartbreaking loss which leaves them three points adrift of the top four with just three games left of the regular season.
Failure to finish in the top four, who go into the Qualifiers as part of the Super 8s, would mean another season in the second flight for the former Super League champions.
Bradford led 20-16 after an hour thanks to tries from Omari Caro, Kieren Moss, James Clare and Alex Mellor, plus two goals by Danny Addy.
Leigh scored tries through Gareth Hock, Greg Worthington and Lee Smith before Maitua's match-winner, with Smith kicking three goals as they completed a third win of the season over the Yorkshiremen.
Dewsbury 6-34 London Broncos
London Broncos bounced back from their home defeat by Leigh with a 34-6 win at Dewsbury that strengthens their hold on second spot.
Israel Eliab scored two tries for the Broncos while Rhys Williams extended his lead at the top of the Championship try chart with his 21st touchdown of the season.
Mark Ioane, Matt Garside and Wes Naiqama got the Londoners' other tries and Naiqama kicked five goals.
Dewsbury, who trailed 12-0 at half-time, scored their only try through Josh Guzdek, which was converted by Paul Sykes.
Swinton 12-62 Halifax RLFC
Centre Ed Barber scored a hat-trick of tries as Halifax kept themselves on course for the top four with a 62-12 rout of Swinton at Heywood Road, thereby avenging a surprise home defeat by the Lions earlier in the season.
Ben Johnston touched down twice while Will Sharp, Scott Murrell, Gareth Moore, Mitch Cahalane, Gavin Bennion and Luke Ambler also scored tries and Steve Tyrer kicked nine goals as Halifax extended their unbeaten run to seven matches.
Substitutes Rhodri Lloyd and Gabriel Fell scored tries for Swinton, who trailed 28-6 at half-time, and Chris Atkin kicked two goals.
Featherstone Rovers 44-22 Workington Town
Rovers won their penultimate match with a 44-22 victory over Workington Town.
Ash Handley's seventh-minute try was cancelled out by Town's Declan Hulme three minutes later before tries from Jamie Cording, Kyle Briggs, Anthony Thackeray and Mike Channing plus four conversions from Jamie Foster gave the home side a 28-4 lead going into the break.
Rovers increased their half-time total 13 minutes after the restart as Jamie Foster touched down before two tries were added in three minutes from man of the match Ian Hardman and Tim Spears.
The final 15 minutes saw the visitors run in three converted tries through Declan Hulme, Brett Phillips and Marc Shackley.
