Former St Helens and Warrington forward Andre Savelio will miss the new NRL season after suffering a serious knee injury that requires surgery.
The 22-year-old second rower joined Brisbane Broncos in the close season from the Wolves on a two-year deal but will now sit out his first season down under after damaging knee ligaments on his first appearance for the club.
Brisbane's high performance manager Jeremy Hickmans has confirmed Savelio will need a knee reconstruction as a result of the injury he sustained 14 minutes into the Broncos' trial game against the Central Capras in Theodore at the weekend.
"Unfortunately he's damaged his ACL and done a little bit of other damage to his knee," Hickmans said on the club's website. "That rules him out for the season.
"At the moment, he'll be seeing the surgeon on Wednesday with the possibility of getting the surgery done next Monday or Tuesday."
