Wildcats boss laments second-half collapse at the Stoop
Wakefield coach John Kear admitted he was disappointed with his players after they threw away a match-winning position against Harlequins.
The Wildcats were on course for their second Super League win of the season until they relinquished an 18-10 lead.
Kear pulled no punches after the game and accused his players of choking under pressure after the eventual 34-18 defeat to Quins.
Panicked
"We've got 13 men out there who panicked and that has allowed Harlequins to get back into the game and win comfortably," he said.
"That was what I found most disappointing.
"I'm disappointed with the second half full stop, especially when we have gone 18-10 up playing some good rugby. But it has not happened for us.
"I'm pleased with a few of the performances but equally there have been some adverse ones from the players.
"We've not stood up and been counted. There were enough of them out there so there are no excuses."
Wakefield powered into an eight point lead at the start of the second half after Brett Ferres added to tries from Scott Grix and Sam Obst.
However, Harlequins hit back in ruthless fashion as Chad Randall, Rikki Sheriffe, Henry Paul and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook all scored after the break to take the game away from the visitors.
Early days
Despite the comeback, Quins coach Brian McDermott is refusing to get carried away with his side's impressive start to the season.
He said: "We have to get to round eight or nine before you really see where you are.
"It's only the beginning of the season so we can't read too much into the league placings at the moment.
"We've had a lot more control in the second half and that's what I pointed out at half-time.
"I thought in the first half our defence was immense but the forward play was ropey.
"Overall, I'm pleased enough with today and there is something for us to take forward."
