Former North Queensland Cowboys forward Ryan Tandy has been charged in Australia in relation to a match-fixing scandal.

Forward did not appear in court; matter now adjourned until July 19

Former North Queensland Cowboys forward Ryan Tandy has been charged in Australia in relation to a match-fixing scandal. Detectives in Sydney on Thursday brought a charge against the player of attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception. The 29-year-old pleaded not guilty last month to four counts of lying to a New South Wales Crime Commission hearing into betting on North Queensland to score first from a penalty goal against Canterbury Bulldogs. Tandy, who was playing for the Bulldogs, conceded a penalty in front of his posts in the opening minutes of the round-24 match in the NRL. The Cowboys took a tap kick instead of kicking for goal and scored a try. Tandy - who has previously played for Hull KR and Widnes and was also part of Ireland's squad for the 2008 World Cup - did not appear in court on Thursday. The matter was adjourned until July 19.
