Veteran ends four years in Origin wilderness

Anthony Minichiello will replace the injured Josh Dugan at full-back in the New South Wales squad for next week's second State of Origin game. Dugan has been ruled out for up to five weeks with an ankle injury, meaning the 31-year-old former Kangaroo Minichello gets the call. He hasn't figured in an Origin game since 2007 with a dreadful run of injuries hampering his career. Minichello got the nod over former Blues stars Jarryd Hayne and Kurt Gidley for Dugan's spot on the squad.

Latest blow

The loss of Dugan was the latest blow for New South Wales in the build-up to Wednesday week's game in Sydney. They had already lost centre Michael Jennings (ankle), winger Brett Morris (hamstring) and prop Kade Snowden (back) through injury. Jennings is also in doubt for game three after Penrith officials confirmed he could be sidelined for up to six weeks. New South Wales were beaten 16-12 in the Origin series opener in Brisbane last month.
