Widnes produce stunning fightback to draw with Wigan with 12 men.

Smith was ordered off by referee James Child in the closing minute of the thrilling 22-22 draw that kicked off the 2015 First Utility Super League season.

The former St Helens playmaker appeared to kick out at Vikings full-back Rhys Hanbury as he was celebrating the late try by Chris Deans that drew his side level.

Cameron Phelps and Joel Tomkins then became embroiled in an argument and all three were spoken to by Child before Smith was told to leave the pitch for the closing seconds of the game.

Widnes' Patrick Ah Van receives a red card in the opening Super League match against Wigan after this tackle on Josh Charnley.

The incident will be scrutinised by the Rugby Football League's match-review panel on Monday and if Smith is charged he will face a hearing on Tuesday.

Any suspension would rule him out of the World Club Series game against Brisbane Broncos on February 21, as they have only one game - at home to the Huddersfield Giants - before the NRL side visit the DW Stadium.

Under the laws of the game, the action of ‘kicks opponent - light contact’ can range from a grade B to D offence, meaning a ban of between two and five games.

Widnes player Patrick Ah Van was sent off in the first half of the match at the Select Security Stadium and he could face a charge for a high tackle on Wigan's England winger Josh Charnley.
