An injury to his Wigan understudy will pave the way for a recall for England winger Josh Charnley in Friday's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie against Hull KR.

Charnley lost his place in the Warriors side after damaging his ankle against Hull in March and was unable to reclaim it due to the form of young wingers Joe Burgess and Dom Manfredi.

Manfredi has been especially prolific, with 12 tries in his last eight matches, but his run will come to an end after he picked up an ankle injury in last Friday's win over Castleford.

"Dom will be out for about four weeks," Wigan coach Shaun Wane said. "I'll know more in a couple of weeks when the swelling has gone down.

"It's sad for him but Josh Charnley is jumping all over the place. He knows he's a bit lucky to get in but he's going to have to take his chance.

"Dom is under pressure now to get it back from Josh and I love that competition. I've been so impressed with Dom's attitude, he's been doing exactly what I wanted him to and I want Josh to do the same or else I'll make another change."

Wigan expect to have forwards Ben Flower and Liam Farrell back to face Hull KR in a sixth-round tie that will take place at Leigh Sports Village because of pitch renovation at the DW Stadium.

"Ben Flower is looking really good as is Liam Farrell, they're coming along with the physio. We've got a really strong squad to pick from.

"It'll be the strongest team I've got, I don't want any slip-ups and we've got to be at our best. I want us to carry on the form that we've had this past few weeks.

"It's the biggest game of the year, the most important of the season and we need all of the Wigan fans to get behind us, get down to Leigh and make it a home game."
