Doncaster have parted company with head coach Paul Cooke following their winless start to the Kingstone Press Championship season.

The South Yorkshire club have announced the 34-year-old former Hull and Hull KR stand-off has left by mutual consent with assistant boss Chris Spurr also departing the Keepmoat Stadium.

An official statement said the club were looking to go in a new direction.

Doncaster have lost their opening 13 games in the Championship and there were even suggestions recently that Cooke himself could come out of retirement to play, although they were denied.

A statement read: "Doncaster RLFC can today confirm the departure of head coach Paul Cooke with immediate effect.

"Also departing with 34-year-old Paul Cooke is assistant coach Chris Spurr.

"Both have agreed to end their stay at Keepmoat Stadium by mutual consent, as the club look to go in a new direction and climb the Kingstone Press Championship table."
