Former Salford head coach joins Australian champions

Former Salford head coach Matt Parish has returned to his homeland to join the backroom staff of reigning NRL champions Manly Sea Eagles. The Australian quit the Super League side for personal reasons nine days ago after less than six months in the role - winning one of his six games in charge - with Phil Veivers now at the helm. Along with David Penna, Parish will be one of two assistants to new Manly coach Geoff Toovey, who is delighted to have the pair on board. Toovey told the club's website: "Both are successful coaches in their own right and we're looking for plenty of input from them throughout the year." Manly captain Jamie Lyon added: "We're looking forward to having Matt on board. "He comes with a big wrap and a lot of people have a high opinion of him so I'm looking forward to working with Matt." Parish, who was previously an assistant at North Queensland and was right-hand man to New South Wales boss Ricky Stuart, will be back in England in February for the Sea Eagles' World Club Challenge against Leeds at Headingley.
