Leeds forward will head to Wakefield after leaving Rhinos

Wakefield have completed a busy day of transfer activity by confirming the signing of Leeds forward Ali Lauitiiti on a two-year contract. The 32-year-old has won four Super League and two World Club Challenge titles since joining the Rhinos in 2004 and leaves Headingley Carnegie as the club's most successful overseas signing ever. He joins Hull KR winger Peter Fox in signing for Wakefield on Wednesday and also follows recent recruits Steve Southern and Vince Mellars to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium. "We are thrilled that Ali has joined the club for the next two years," Wakefield chief executive James Elston said. It was confirmed that coach John Kear would leave the club just days after their surprise award of a new Super League licence, and Elston and owner Andrew Glover are now searching for a replacement. Elston added: "He is a marquee signing for us and not only is he an incredibly talented player; he is also a great person. "He is the calibre of player whose signature doesn't need explaining.

Honours

"His international honours, amount of tries and number of impressive performances tell a tale of their own and we are delighted to have him with us. "Ali will provide a huge impact on the development of our younger players and I am very much looking forward to his arrival. I would like to welcome him and his family to the Wildcats." Former New Zealand Warriors player Lauitiiti has made 193 appearances for Leeds, averaging a try almost every three games. The Samoa international said: "I am really pleased to have signed here at Wakefield. "I have a lot of friends that have either played here in the past or are playing now and they all have great things to say about the club. "Wakefield are a club with a proud history and a big future and I'm happy that I'm now a part of that. I look forward to the start of next season and getting out on the field with the boys."
