Mahe Fonua is targeting a Super League and Challenge Cup double in his final season with Hull FC

Mahe Fonua is the man with the golden grin and the Hull FC winger wants to bow out from Super League with a Grand Final medal.

The winger's smile is steeped in Tongan tradition, with a family ritual dictating it would showcase his father's wedding ring.

And having won back-to-back Challenge Cups with the Airlie Birds, Fonua is hoping to be smiling again on October 7 as Hull chase a first Grand Final victory.

"The Challenge Cup is a knockout competition and when it comes to do-or-die games, we've managed to switch on and be focused," said Fonua, who will return to the NRL next season after agreeing to join Wests Tigers.

"These next two games are do-or-die for us. I'm hoping we can get back into that knockout mentality and play our best footy."

Fonua scored two superb tries in 12-man Hull's heartbreaking loss to Wigan last week, a result which saw them drop to fourth in the Super 8s standings, one point ahead of Thursday's opponents Wakefield.

"He has been a fantastic signing," said Radford of Fonua. "I'm really glad he has had such success over here and I wish him all the success in the world when he goes back.
