Australia boss signs new contract to end Widnes speculation

Australia national coach Tim Sheens has ended speculation linking him with the Widnes job by signing a three-year contract with Wests Tigers. The 60-year-old was reportedly approached by Super League new boys Widnes to take charge on their top-flight-return. Sheens, who has held the dual role with the Kangaroos and Tigers since 2009, also turned down a four-year deal from NRL side Penrith Panthers. And he has now committed his future to the Tigers, a club he is into his ninth season with and who he led to their first premiership in 2005. "I'm really pleased with my decision. I have a lot of unfinished business here which I'm looking forward to tackling," Sheens said. Penrith could now look at Huddersfield boss Nathan Brown, who will be out of contract at the end of the season, after missing out on Sheens. The former St George Illawarra boss is rumoured to be on a three-man shortlist along with New South Wales coach Ricky Stuart and Panthers assistant Steve Georgallis for the position.
