George Carmont is keeping feet firmly on the ground following Wigan's thrilling Challenge Cup victory over Warrington.
Wigan centre won't be distracted by cup win
Wigan are just 80 minutes away from a first trip to Wembley since 1998 following their thrilling 44-24 Challenge Cup quarter-final win over Warrington on Saturday.
But Warriors centre George Carmont is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, even though the manner of the victory over their chief Super League rivals has made them favourites to go all the way.
Carmont is well aware that there is much work to do if he and his team-mates are to become the first Wigan side since 2002 to lift the trophy.
But for now the New Zealand-born Samoan has turned his attention back to the Super League and remains focused solely on the Warriors trip to Hull next week.
"We can't look far ahead," he said. "It is back to work next week, back into Super League.
Huge significance
"We have just got to take each week as it comes. When the week comes for the semi-finals we will be prepared as best as we can."
Wigan have won the Challenge Cup a record 17 times, including a run of eight consecutive wins at Wembley that ended in 1995.
But they have won the competition only once since - at Murrayfield in 2002 - and the huge significance of bringing the trophy back to the DW Stadium once more is not lost on Carmont.
"The Challenge Cup has got a lot of history and tradition, especially where Wigan is involved," he continued.
"It means a lot to the boys and I think everyone knows how much it means to each other.
"Everyone is doing their best to try to go down in history as one of the Wigan teams to win the Challenge Cup."
Perfect send-off
Wigan coach Michael Maguire has made a huge impression since joining the club last year, ending the Warriors' 12-year wait for a Super League title in his first season in charge.
The 37-year-old Australian is set to return Down Under at the end of this season after completing a deal to coach NRL side the South Sydney Rabbitohs next year.
And Carmont believes that the current group of players and staff have the quality to give their coach the perfect send-off from the Lancashire club.
"We have got a good group of people here, he said Madge (Maguire) has been great since he has been here and so have the rest of the coaching staff.
"As a group of people, it would be good to win it this year."
