Utility player Danny Craven has signed a new deal to remain with Widnes for the 2018 season.

The 25-year-old made nine appearances in the early stages of this campaign as the Vikings suffered a half-back crisis in the wake of Kevin Brown's move to Warrington, with Joe Mellor and Tom Gilmore sustaining injuries.

Craven scored a hat-trick as Widnes earned their first win of the Super League season at Leigh in April but has not featured since injuring his hand against Leeds over the Easter period.

"I'm very happy to have signed this extension," the academy product told the club's website.

"I've enjoyed this season and I feel like I've played well.

"Unfortunately, I've been out for a while with injury, but I'm now fit and looking forward to kicking on for the rest of the campaign."

Vikings head coach Denis Betts added: "The extension of Danny's contract is positive news for the club.

"Danny has taken advantage of the opportunity available to him this year. He trained fantastically during the pre-season and has proved to be a real asset to the team.

"Danny is maturing into the player that we always felt he was capable of becoming and we believe that he will contribute significantly for the remainder of this season and in 2018."
