National League Two club bring in former Wigan ace

Former Wigan star Ellery Hanley is back in rugby league after being named as the new coach of Doncaster. The ambitious National League Two club pulled off a major coup by landing the former Great Britain captain, who has also coached in rugby union. Doncaster moved to sign Hanley, who has agreed a three-year deal, following the resignation of former coach John Stankevitch, who left for personal reasons. Hanley revealed that the move came about through a 'mutual contact' and said: "I was very content with what I was doing but I was very impressed by the enthusiasm of the club. Money was not a factor. "I was attracted by the different kind of challenge, taking the team from the doldrums." Hanley becomes Doncaster's fifth coach in just 12 months and is seen as a cornerstone of the club's ambitions to reach Super League by 2012. Chairman Craig Harrison said: "We wanted to make a massive statement and this shows the intent of the club. There is an aura about Ellery and it's a fantastic signing for rugby league."
