Coach slams 'disgraceful' tackle
Wakefield coach John Kear launched a blistering attack on opponents Huddersfield following his side's narrow 28-26 victory at Belle Vue on Sunday.
Kear criticised the attitude of the visitors, describing a fourth minute tackle by Kevin Brown that required the game to be stopped for Danny Brough to receive treatment as 'disgraceful'.
Moments after Brough was stretchered off a punch-up broke out between Danny Sculthorpe and Darrell Griffin, for which both players were sin-binned.
"I am very disappointed with the approach the opponents took, especially early on in the game," Kear said.
"I felt the challenge on Danny Brough was disgraceful. I was really pleased how my players responded to that.
"He got up-ended. We can look at it on the video - the RFL will have a look at it and rightly so, I am absolutely seething about that.
"It then escalated. If you come with that attitude, what else do you expect?"
The match was mired in further controversy when referee Steve Ganson awarded a try to Jamie Rooney two tackles after the half-time hooter had sounded.
"You keep playing," Kear said. "It's the old adage, you play to the whistle. I didn't hear it - it's Arsene Wenger's hearing aid I've got!"
Frustration
Huddersfield's caretaker coach Kieron Purtill did not complain about Rooney's second try, other than expressing frustration, but admitted the club would probably follow up the matter
"Personally I didn't hear it," he said. "I was on my way down from the gantry at the time and the lads have not mentioned it.
"At half-time they were looking forward to getting back out there and carrying on with the game."
Purtill, in charge alongside Paul Anderson following the sacking of Jon Sharp, added: "It's all we've asked for.
"From the last result we've just asked them to go out and get a response. We saw that. It's a big response from last time we played."
