St Helens prop Bryn Hargreaves admits he would have been 'devastated' to have missed the Challenge Cup final for the second year running.
Hargreaves was the 18th man 12 months ago when Saints beat Catalans Dragons 30-8 in the Wembley showpiece.
He was overlooked for a place on the bench in favour of Paul Clough and admits it was a major disappointment after being involved in Saints' run to the final.
"I was gutted last year - I played every round and just missed out on the final," said Hargreaves.
Upset
"I only found on the Wednesday. My parents spent a few quid to go down there and didn't get to see me. Now I'm just happy to make up for it this year. It makes you more determined.
"I wasn't bitter, but I was upset and disappointed. I was made up for Cloughie, though. He scored a try at Wembley and has come on in leaps and bounds."
However, Hargreaves is set for a more positive experience this time around when Saints play Hull in Saturday's showdown at Wembley.
With Jason Cayless injured, and Maurie Fa'asavalu doubtful, Hargreaves is certain to be involved and he is relishing the opportunity.

He added: "It did cross my mind, but I tried not to think about it - my family were the ones doing the worrying and they mentioned it.
"I would have been devastated to miss out again, but now I'm made up and I can't wait to get out there.
"Saints have been blessed with front-rowers in the last few years and I knew it was going to be difficult this year to get a few games.
"When injuries cropped up, the chance came to step up and take some responsibility. I have achieved what I wanted to achieve - namely play some good rugby and not let anybody down.
"But the season isn't over yet. All the things we have done so far mean nothing - we've won nothing yet - and it is the next month or so that counts."
