Huddersfield Giants have signed centre or back row forward Jamie Cording, initially on a part-time contract.
The 20-year-old former Gateshead player will train full-time with the Giants over the next two months as he looks to clinch a permanent deal.
"It's a massive opportunity that Huddersfield have given me and I intend to take it with both hands," he said.
"I want to work hard in pre-season and hopefully prove that I'm worthy of a full-time contract."
Giants head of youth performance Damian McGrath said: "As a club we like to give players an opportunity to show us their potential in a full-time environment.
"We became aware of Jamie's availability and it has given us the chance to take a closer look at a player who has all the attributes to prosper."
