Edinburgh remain on top of Pool 4 of the European Challenge Cup with a tough win at the Kassam Stadium over a London Welsh outfit who pushed them deep into the second half before the Scots sealed the win with two late tries.
Edinburgh hold on to their 100 per cent winning record in Europe while London Welsh stay at the bottom of the pool with no wins in their campaign.
The Scottish visitors took a 9-3 lead into half-time thanks to the boot of Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, whose three penalties stood against Chris Elder's lone penalty goal for the hosts.
It was Hidalgo-Clyne who scored first for his team, but Elder levelled the scores shortly thereafter.
London Welsh were given more good news in the form of Edinburgh's Andries Strauss receiving a yellow card, but the Exiles were unable to punish Edinburgh during those 10 minutes, and in fact they lost a player of their own when Lachlan McCaffrey was sent to the bin a few minutes from the interval.
The second half was a continued arm wrestle with penalties being exchanged once again by Hidalgo-Clyne and Elder before the opening try was scored by Dougie Fife. It was Jack Cuthbert feeding the winger who then took the opportunity to extend his side’s lead with 57 minutes on the clock.
Hidalgo-Clyne failed to convert his team mate’s try, but when Roddy Grant went over in the closing stage of the game Greig Tonks stepped up to take the lead to an unassailable 18 points.
London Welsh have now failed to register a win in any competition so far this season, despite running Edinburgh close in both fixtures in the European Challenge Cup.
