World No 2 Andy Murray begins his quest for a second Wimbledon title with an all-British clash against wild card Liam Broady on Centre Court.
Murray, who lifted a record fifth Queen's title earlier this month, has been reunited with Ivan Lendl, the former Czech great who coached him to Wimbledon glory in 2013.
The 29-year-old two-time Grand Slam winner faces a fellow British player for the first time at a major tournament in Broady, ranked 235 in the world.
Broady fought back from two sets to love down to beat Australia's Marinko Matosevic in the first round 12 months ago. That followed a successful junior career at the All England Club. He became only the second British boy to reach the singles final since 1972 in 2011, losing to Australia's Luke Saville.
Now Broady, 22, will relish the opportunity of taking on Murray for a place in the second round and a potential meeting against Yen-Hsun Lu from Chinese Taipei or Russian world No 167 Alexander Kudryavtsev.
Murray will follow women's top seed and defending champion Serena Williams, who opens up her bid for a record-equalling 22nd Grand Slam title against Switzerland's Amra Sadikovic.
The 34-year-old American has not struck a ball competitively since losing to Spain's Garbine Muguruza in the French Open final on June 4 - a defeat that frustrated her hopes of matching Steffi Graf's professional era record.
"I don't feel any pressure. I feel good and confident," she said at the All England Club where she has won six singles titles, one more than her older sister Venus.
Other Brits in action include Aljaz Bedene with the British No 2 taking on two-time semi-finalist Richard Gasquet in a tough looking encounter on Court Three.
Johanna Konta leads the British women's charge as the 16th seed - the first home seed in the women's draw since 1984 - takes on Monica Puig in the first round on Court One.
Heather Watson faces Annika Beck in the last match on Court 2 with Tara Moore facing Alison Van Uytvanck on Court 8 while teenager Katie Swan walks out for her first senior match at the All England Club against Hungarian Timea Babos.
Stan Wawrinka is in action against Taylor Fritz while the talented but hot-headed Australian Nick Kyrgios faces veteran Czech Radek Stepanek. Former finalist Tomas Berdych goes up against Ivan Dodig while 18th seed John Isner takes on Marcos Baghdatis in an intriguing contest.
