The US Open has been accused of having double standards after Alize Cornet received a controversial code violation for adjusting her shirt courtside.

With temperatures reaching 36 degrees in New York this week, players have been allowed 10-minute breaks at this year's US Open.

Cornet took advantage of this time to change her top in the changing room during the interval between the second and third set of her loss to Johanna Larsson on Tuesday.

However, the world No 31 realised upon her return to the court that her shirt was on backwards. She took off the top - revealing a sports-bra underneath - to quickly adjust her shirt to the correct position.

In response, the umpire handed the French player a code violation - despite the fact male players are allowed to change on court.
