Sara Errani battled back from a set down to overcome Germany's 13th-seed Andrea Petkovic 3-6 6-3 6-2 to go through to the quarter-finals of the China Open

The diminutive Italian will next take on 12th-seed Timea Bacsinszky for a place in the Beijing semi-finals.

Switzerland's Bacsinszky edged a topsy-turvy match, which had 11 breaks in total, with seventh-seed Carla Suarez-Navarro of Spain, winning 6-4 4-6 7-5 to progress.

German Angelique Kerber broke eighth seed Caroline Wozniacki seven times to ease into the last eight with a 6-2 6-3 triumph over the Dane.
