Aljaz Bedene has lost in the first round of the Rio Open to Fabio Fognini in straight sets.

The British No 2 failed to make it through to the second round of the tournament in Brazil as his Italian foe ran out 7-5 6-3 winner.

The Slovenian-born Bedene was narrowly edged out of the opening set by world No 24 Fognini but ran out of steam in the second set.
