Johanna Konta eased past Madison Brengle in impressive fashion to reach the third round of the BNP Parisbas Open in Indian Wells

The British No 1 beat the 25-year-old American 6-4 6-0 despite letting an initial break of serve slip at 4-3 in the first set, running off eight straight games to move into the last 32.

Konta, who has careered up the rankings to 26, began the match with a break of serve at 2-2 to take the upper hand.

She held on to her lead for a solitary game before world No 58 Brengle forced her way back in to the match, but a double fault at 15-40 gave Konta the opportunity to break back.

It went to 30-40 before Konta came to the net to take the break of serve, and then she calmly went on to serve up the 10th game to love to finish the first set in 40 minutes.

Another double fault in the first game of the second set helped the 24-year-old move a set and a break up, and that third break seemed to demoralise Brengle.

Despite a easy victory, Konta but was quick to pay tribute to her combative opponent.

"Every single point we have played in the past has always been a battle, she is an incredibly tough competitor, so I consider this a really good win for me today," Konta said

"It is just an accumulation of things (for me this year), I am a firm believer in having to accumulate a lot of experience and time on the tour, I am lucky enough to have a great team around me and we are doing some good work."
