Former world tennis No 1 Caroline Wozniacki used Twitter to tell fans she will missing out on the Fed Cup and this month's Istanbul Cup after suffering an ankle injury in training.

The 25-year-old Dane, who has dropped to 24th in the world rankings, confirmed news of her latest setback via social media when she tweeted her fans on Friday: "Rolled my ankle during practice today, very sad to miss out on Fed Cup and Istanbul, but I'll be back soon. Thanks for the love!"

As well as the tie in Egypt, scheduled for April 13-16, she will also miss the upcoming 2016 Istanbul Cup the following week.

After winning the outdoor hard court WTA competition in Turkey back in 2014, Denmark will be disappointed that Wozniacki, their number one ranked player, will not be able to feature.

Wozniacki suffered a disappointing North American swing having lost to Shuai Zhang at Indian Wells in the second round and followed that up with a third round exit in Miami.

She was the most prominent player to crash out in the first round in Melbourne against Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva - having been seeded 16th for the first Grand Slam of the year.

Wozniacki has recently begun to work with David Kotyza, the former coach of Petra Kvitova and they will be working together in Monte Carlo providing Wozniacki overcomes her injury problems.
