David Ferrer has been forced to withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters due to an unspecified injury.
The Spaniard was due to start his campaign on Wednesday with a second-round match against German teenager Alexander Zverev.
World No 8 Ferrer was seeded seventh for the clay-court tournament.
The 34-year-old, a finalist in Monte Carlo five years ago against Rafa Nadal, has had a patchy start to the year and took a break from late February to late March to rest.
He was beaten by France's Lucas Pouille in the third round of the Miami Open when he returned to action.
