Heather Watson crashed out of the Internationaux de Strasbourg at the first hurdle after defeat to the world No 62 Kateryna Bondarenko.

World No 52 Watson's struggles on the clay continued after a 6-3 0-6 6-1 in the opening round, having also lost to Barbora Strycova in the early stages of last week's Rome Masters.

After breaking Watson at 4-3 to take the opening set, Bondarenko found herself on the back foot as the 23-year-old from Guernsey reeled off six straight games to level.
