Stan Wawrinka cruises into Rogers Cup semi-final after beating Kevin Anderson

Stan Wawrinka made light work of Kevin Anderson as he eased into the Rogers Cup semi-finals with a straight sets 6-1 6-3 victory.

The Swiss No 2 seed dominated his South African opponent from start to finish in Toronto on Friday, winning the quarter-final clash in just 74 minutes. 

He will next face Kei Nishikori for a place in the final after the Japanese third seed battled past Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 3-6 6-2.

Nishikori eased to take the first set, but Dimitrov, world No 40, hit back to force the decider. Nishikori broke twice in the final set and cruised towards the finish line before serving out to love to seal the win.

Wawrinka hit the ground running on Friday as he opened up a 4-0 advantage over the big-hitting Anderson, and broke him for a third time to secure the first set in just 30 minutes.

Anderson improved in the second set and it took until the eighth game for Wawrinka to find the breakthrough as he made it 5-3, before going on to served out the match.

In the end it was a dominant performance from the Swiss, who lost just five points in his own serve in the whole match and managed 14 winners.

"It was a really good match, I started really well the first game," Wawrinka said.

"It's one of the best matches of the year I've played. It showed me that I was ready, aggressive, moving really well. I was calm, served very good and mixed up my game."
