Simona Halep will face American Madison Keys in Sunday's final of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

The Romanian overcame Angelique Kerber in three sets, while Keys booked her place in the final with a comfortable victory over the unseeded Kristina Kucova.

As for Halep, she needed 100 minutes to overcome the No 2 seeded German 6-0 3-6 6-2.

After winning the first set with ease, the No 5 seed appeared to be on her way to a straight-sets triumph when she made the first break of serve in the second to lead 3-2.

However, this year's Wimbledon runner-up responded by taking four straight games to clinch the second set - and then made an early break in the decider.

But, in a topsy-turvy encounter, Halep ended the match as she had started it - by winning the final six games.

The win avenged her defeat by the German at the quarter-final stage at Wimbledon earlier this month.

Halep admitted: "Mentally, I am pretty strong and I am a little bit disappointed in the second set I gave up at 3-2. But this is me.

"In the third set, I told myself I had to calm down, to be more positive because I was very negative at the changeover.

"I just tried to be more aggressive, to hit the ball because I started to push it and she could dominate."

In the second semi-final, Keys destroyed qualifier Kucova 6-2 6-1 in under an hour. The 10th seed won 10 of the last 11 games, while only conceding nine points from her eight service games.

Kucova had reached this stage of the tournament by beating Britain's Johanna Konta in the quarter-finals.

Sunday's match will be the first hardcourt final of the 21-year-old's WTA Tour career. Both of her titles, so far, have come on English grass.
