American tennis star Sloane Stephens has withdrawn from the US Open with a right foot injury, organisers have confirmed.

The 23-year-old's withdrawal sees Olympic champion Monica Puig of Puerto Rico move into the 32nd seed position.

Stephens, who made the fourth round in New York in 2013, had been on a poor run of form in recent weeks.
