Pablo Carreno Busta claimed his first ATP Tour title with a 6-7 7-6 6-4 win over fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the final of the Winston-Salem Open.
Carreno Busta, ranked just inside the world's top 50, overcame the loss of an opening set tie-break at the Wake Forest Tennis Centre to upset the tournament's second seed.
He had already lost two finals this season and could have been excused had his head dropped at the end of a taxing first set.
But Carreno Busta dug deep in the second and levelled the match in similar fashion, dominating the tie-break for the loss of only one point to take the match to a deciding set.
Breaks of serve had been hard to come by - just one apiece in the first two sets - but it was Carreno Busta who grabbed the third break of the match on his only break point of the decider.
Carreno Busta was able to serve out to claim victory and set himself up for next week's US Open in New York - he plays Ilya Ivashka of Belarus in the first round.
