Nick Kyrgios nearly hit Marcos Baghdatis with a serve during the warm-up

The shenanigans that have become his trademark were absent with the exception of one light-hearted moment when he almost struck Baghdatis with a serve during the warm-up.

Elsewhere, Dan Evans was eliminated by Robin Haase before criticising the eligibility of new British No 3, Aljaz Bedene, who was born in Slovenia.

Evans told the BBC: "It's nothing against Aljaz. I like him, he's not confrontational in any way, but to me it doesn't sit well if you play for another country. I don't feel bad about him, but for me it's a bit baffling as to why."
