Alexander Zverev and Frances Tiafoe play out thrilling rally
Tuesday 22 August 2017 16:33, UK
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer may have returned to major winning ways this year, but the Western & Southern Open has offered a tantalising glimpse into the future.
Nadal is the only one of the world's top 10 to reach the last 16 in Cincinnati after Tiafoe beat in-form Zverev in their second round encounter on Wednesday night - becoming the latest youngster to make his mark in the absence of a host of injured stars.
The match between Tiafoe and Zverev showcased some of the best young talent in the sport and that tennis is in good hands when (and if!) the legends decide to call it a day.
Zverev beat Federer to claim his second Masters title of the year in Montreal last week but he became American teenager Tiafoe's first top 10 scalp as the 19-year-old battled back from a set down for a three-set victory.
Zverev has already booked his place at the NextGen end of season Finals and Tiafoe's run will give him hope of joining the German in Italy at the end of the season - he plays John Isner as all eight third round matches take place on Sky Sports Action on Thursday night
