World number two suffering from knee trouble

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Monte Carlo Masters due to a knee injury. The world number two, who is unbeaten this year, announced on Friday that he would be unable to take part in the tournament, which starts on April 10. There were no further details about the extent of the injury but the 23-year-old Serb, who lives in the principality, said he was disappointed for his fans. "It's a tough blow and sad news," he said in a statement. "Not only for the tournament and my fans but also for myself." Djokovic trains for large parts of the year on the Monte Carlo courts and was hoping to use the event to launch a successful claycourt season. Since winning his second grand slam at the Australian Open in January, Djokovic has triumphed in Indian Wells and Miami. His unbeaten run, which currently stands at 26 matches, stretches back to December and is putting steady pressure on number one Rafa Nadal to hold on to the top spot.
