No fairytale ending for Austrian at Bad Gastein

Sybille Bammer has said goodbye to the WTA Tour after losing her final match to fellow Austrian Yvonne Meusberger in the second round of the Gastein Ladies. The former world number 19, who had stated her intention to retire after the tournament, went down 6-2 6-1 to Meusberger, who needed just one hour and two minutes to complete her win. There was more delight for the home fans as local wild card Patricia Mayr-Achleitner also advanced to the last eight with a powerful 6-1 6-4 victory over Croatia's Petra Martic. Another Austrian wild card, Nikola Hofmanova, went down 3-6 6-4 6-3 to Russian qualifier Dia Evtimova. Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez was a 6-4 6-2 winner over Sandra Zahlavova of the Czech Republic.
