Louk Sorensen's run at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart was brought to an end on Thursday as he was beaten by third seed Roberto Bautista Agut.

The Irish lucky loser had upset Igor Sijsling in the first round and fought back bravely to take Bautista Agut to a decider after a sparkling display in the second set.

But the Spaniard ultimately had too much for him as Sorensen rather ran out of steam and the world number 236 went down 6-3 1-6 6-1.

Next up for Bautista Agut is compatriot Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who was a 7-6 (15/13) 7-5 winner over Switzerland’s Yann Marti.
