ATP Claro Open Colombia: James Ward through to the last 16 in Bogota

James Ward was given a helping hand as he reached the last-16 of the Claro Open in Bogota.

The 27-year-old Londoner was leading Matthew Ebden 6-4 3-0 when the seventh seed from Australia was forced to retire hurt with a hand injury.

Ward's reward is a clash with Jimmy Wang, with the world No 133 advancing after a 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-3 victory over Michal Przysiezny.

Victor Estrella Burgos beat Juan Ignacio Londero 7-5 6-3 to set up a clash with Peter Polansky who defeated local favourite Nicolas Barrientos 3-6 6-4 6-3.

Tight

Third seed Vasek Pospisil is through to the quarter-finals after a straight-sets win over Alex Kuznetsov.

The all-North American clash was a tight affair but the Canadian eventually overcame his opponent from the United States 7-5 7-5.

Pospisil will next face Bernard Tomic who upset the home fans with a 6-1 7-6 (7/2) win over Alejandro Falla.

Fourth-seed Radek Stepanek also progressed to the last-eight with a 7-6 (7/2) 6-2 win over Argentina's Guido Pella.

Sixth seed Alejandro Gonzalez defeated Thiemo de Bakker 6-3 6-4 and will play Stepanek in the quarter-finals
