Australian Open: Andy Murray hails Amelie Mauresmo after reaching Melbourne final

Andy Murray believes reaching the Australian Open final under the guidance of Amelie Mauresmo is proof that women can succeed as elite-level tennis coaches.
The British No 1 defeated Thomas Berdych 6-7 (6-8) 6-0 6-3 7-5 to reach his first Grand Slam final under the tutelage of 2006 Australian Open women’s champion Mauresmo.
And Murray, who has finished runner-up on three previous occasions in Melbourne, says reaching Sunday’s final shows he made the right decision to recruit Mauresmo.
“A lot of people criticised me for working with her and I think so far this week we have shown that women can be very good coaches as well,” Murray said after his semi-final victory.
“Madison Keys, who reached the semis here and had her best tournament, is also coached by a woman in Lindsay Davenport and I see no reason why that can’t keep moving forward like that in the future.
“I’m very thankful to Amelie for doing it and I would say it was a brave choice from her to do it. Hopefully I can repay her for what she did.”
Murray and Mauresmo have been working together since last year’s Aegon Championships at Queens Club in London prior to Wimbledon.
