The two top seeds left in the Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem in Marrakech both crashed out on Thursday.

Swiss second seed Timea Bacsinszky and Flavia Pennetta, the third seed from Italy, both saw their hopes ended.

Bacsinszky suffered a 6-3 3-6 7-5 quarter-final loss to Slovakian seventh seed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, while Pennetta went down 6-2 5-7 7-5 to Hungary's Timea Babos.

Schmiedlova will face fourth seed Elina Svitolina in the last four after the Ukrainian beat Italian Karin Knapp 6-0 3-6 6-3.
