Stan Wawrinka started his grass court campaign with a clinical victory over Nick Kyrgios in the first round of the Aegon Championships.
The newly crowned French Open champion continued his fine form at Queen's Club, defeating the Australian 6-3 6-4 to set up a second round clash with Kevin Anderson.
Kyrgios burst onto the world scene with last year’s shock win over Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon, but could not contain Wawrinka, the world No 4.
The Swiss player overcame a tricky opening clash in impressive fashion, fending off three break points in the second set, with Kyrgios trying to gain a foothold.
He then served out for the win and can look ahead to his next encounter against the big-serving South African.
The 6ft 8in Anderson advanced after dispatching four-time winner Lleyton Hewitt in his last-ever Queen's run on Monday.
Following his early exit, Kyrgios admitted he needed a few days away from the sport before focusing his efforts on making another big impact at the All England Club.
"Probably going to stay in my house for a couple of days and sleep, play computer games and chill out," said the 20-year-old.
"Just not think about tennis, turn off all tennis channels, delete my ATP app and just not think about tennis for a week."
The gruelling tour appears to have taken it's toll on the exciting youngster, but he is refusing to read too much into this latest setback.
"I have been battling mentally a bit," he said. "We will see how it goes. It's tough at the moment.
"I feel confident still. I know I could do some good things there and I know I don't necessarily need too many matches before grand slams."
