Maria Sharapova misses WTA Tour Rogers Cup due to injury

Injury has forced Maria Sharapova to withdraw from next week’s WTA Tour event in Canada.

The world No 2 is suffering from right leg strain and has had to pull out from the Rogers Cup in Totonto.

The 28-year-old Russian has not played since she lost to Serena Williams in the semi-finals at Wimbledon on July 9 and played just 10 tournament so far this year

The Rogers Cup was to be her first hard court tournament of the summer, as she prepares for the year's final Grand Slam event at Flushing Meadows in New York.

The US Open, which runs from August 31 to September 13, is being broadcast live on Sky Sports.
