Serena, two years younger than her elder sibling at 33, still has the calendar Grand Slam firmly in her sights having already captured the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year. To do so, she must dispose of Venus to earn a place in the semi-finals.

It will be their second match of 2015 after Serena came out on top en route to winning Wimbledon earlier this summer.

The younger sister has a 15-11 winning head-to-head record and has won six of their previous seven matches. The last time they met at the US Open was in 2008 when Serena also came out on top.

Tuesday's quarter-final will be their fifth encounter at their home country's Grand Slam and they have two wins apiece so far.

Providing the encore to the fascinating Williams sisters' tie will be Novak Djokovic. The world No 1 continues on his own path towards the US Open title, having already captured two of the three Grand Slams so far this year, in a last eight clash with Feliciano Lopez.

Djokovic has won all five of their previous matches so the Spaniard, ranked No 19 in the world, poses few problems to him on paper but the memory of Andy Murray's surprise defeat to Kevin Anderson on Monday will be fresh.

In a second men's quarter-final, last year's Flushing Meadows champion Marin Cilic continues his defence against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Kristina Mladenovic takes on Roberta Vinci in the other women's quarter-final.
