Mirza beats Molik to set up victory for India

India revived their hopes of reaching the Hopman Cup final with a 2-1 win over hosts Australia in Perth. Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna beat Alicia Molik and Peter Luczak 6-2 4-6 13-11 in the decisive doubles rubber to improve India's record to 1-1 from their two Group A matches. Australia have a matching record and face the United States in their final group match, the Americans needing to win to top the group and seal a place in Friday's final. Should the United States lose, India could pinch top spot by beating the Czech Republic. Mirza gave India the perfect start by beating Molik 6-2 2-6 6-4 in the opening singles rubber, before Luczak levelled the match with a 7-6 6-3 win over Bopanna. Mirza was up 5-1 in the final set and held two match points on Molik's serve before the Australian came back to win the next three games, saving four match points along the way. "I almost lost that one," said Mirza. "Fifteen-40, love-40, it doesn't matter, she can come up with a big serve at any time." Top seeds Serbia face France in Group B on Wednesday, while Argentina take on Taiwan.
