Dechy soundly beaten on home soil

Top seed Anna Chakvetadze swept into the Open Gaz de France quarter-finals with a 6-1 6-3 victory over Nathalie Dechy. The Russian, ranked number seven in the world, was in dominant form while racing through the first set in just 23 minutes. Dechy did briefly rally from 3-0 down to level the second set but then lost the next three to slide out of the tournament. "Because it was my first indoor match this season I didn't expect it to be so easy," said Chakvetadze. "Nathalie didn't play her best. She started to play better in the second set when I lost my concentration and struggled a bit with the serve." Chakvetadze will play Amelie Mauresmo in the last eight - and the 20-year-old knows she will be up against it having lost her three previous meetings with the Frenchwoman.

Good

"The crowd will obviously be behind her (Mauresmo) but I can't wait to play her here in Paris. I think it will be a good match," said Chakvetadze. Mauresmo, a winner of the Open Gaz de France in 2001 and 2006, came through her match without breaking a sweat as her opponent Eleni Daniilidou retired because of illness at 3-0 in the first set. However Mauresmo wasted little time looking ahead to her last-eight match with Chakvetadze. "I saw her [Chakvetadze] play against Nathalie and it's true she made few mistakes," said Mauresmo. "I would have liked to find my feet a bit more [against Daniilidou] but I'm going to take the positives from my first-round match." Also through to the last-eight are Daniela Hantuchova, Marion Bartoli, Kateryna Bondarenko and Virginie Razzano. Second-seeded Slovak Hantuchova brushed aside Katerina Srebotnik 6-4 1-6 6-3; third seed Bartoli recorded a 7-5 6-1 win against Dominika Cibulkova; Bondarenko wasted little time in toppling fellow Ukrainian Yuliana Fedak 6-0 6-3; while Razzano beat 18-year-old Alize Cornet 6-4 7-5.
