Stan Wawrinka is safely through to the third round of the Australian Open after a straight-sets win over Radek Stepanek.
The fifth seed was troubled at times by Stepanek's serve-and-volley game, but completed a 6-2 6-3 6-4 victory to secure a meeting with Lukas Rosol in the next stage.
In an entertaining fourth set, both players exchanged breaks and line-call changes, before Wawrinka ended the spirited Czech's challenge to reach the third round for an eighth year in row.
Milos Raonic has also progressed after coming through a hard-fought 7-6 7-6 7-5 win over Tommy Robredo.
The 13th seed closed out the match on his third match point, breaking Robredo's serve to win with the only service break.
But Fernando Verdasco could not build on his upset win over fellow Rafael Nadal as he was beaten 4-6 6-3 6-3 7-6 by Dudi Sela of Israel.
