A look at the young contenders that could cause an upset in the French Open

We take a look at the young contenders who could cause an upset at this year's French Open at Roland Garros.

For the first time, the top five players in the rankings are over 30, but there are several youngsters who could win their first Grand Slam in Paris.

The 20-year-old Alexander Zverev beat Novak Djokovic to win the prestigious Rome Masters and has rocketed into the top 10.

The 2017 French Open appears to be one of the most open in years on the women's side

Zverev has now won three titles this year, adding Rome to Montpellier and Munich and is the first player born in the 1990s to win a Masters 1000 trophy.

Then there's 23-year-old Dominic Thiem, who also impressed coming second only to Rafael Nadal this clay season.

After losing to the Spaniard in finals in Barcelona and Madrid, he handed Nadal his first loss in four tournaments in the quarter-finals in Rome.

Other players to watch out for are athletic Australian Nick Kyrgios, and world No 15 Jack Sock, who is the next big thing to come out of America.
