Caroline Wozniacki will have to come from a set down if she is to add a second Grand Slam title of the year to her Australian Open crown in Paris.

With the light fading fast at Roland Garros, the Dane blew a great opportunity to take the early initiative - serving for the set she was broken by Daria Kasatkina who went on to claim the opener on the tie break.

Controversial scenes at the end saw both players appealing to come off as darkness descended on the French capital and eventually the umpire relented, taking the players off with the score locked as 3-3 in the second set.

They will return on Monday to conclude the battle for the remaining quarter-final place in the bottom half of the draw.

Sloane Stephens proved too tough a test for Anett Kontaveit as the US Open champion defeated the Estonian 25th seed 6-2 6-0 in 52 minutes.

The pair had never previously met but after an even opening Stephens' greater power and consistency from the baseline shone through, while she only lost two points on her first serve.

The second set was more one-sided as the American converted each of her three break points to ease to her maiden quarter-final appearance at Roland Garros.

Keys is yet to lose a set in the French capital and despite her Romanian opponent having beaten Elina Svitolina in the previous round, she was no match for the imposing American.

The 23-year-old hit four aces and 17 winners, while she converted each of her four break point chances in the match and booked a quarter-final with unseeded Yulia Putintseva.

The diminutive Kazakh matched her previous run to the quarter-finals in 2016 with a 6-4 6-3 win against Czech 26th seed Barbora Strycova.
