Friday 1 July 2016 08:48, UK
Heather Watson's Wimbledon campaign is over after she wasted three match points in her three-set first-round defeat to Germany's Annika Beck.
Leading 10-9, Watson forced three break points on the German's serve but all went begging as Beck recovered to level an epic deciding set and claim the next two games for a 3-6 6-0 12-10 victory.
Weather had played havoc with the match which had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, but due to rain finally got underway on Wednesday.
Having claimed the opening set, Watson lost seven games in succession before play was brought to a halt on Wednesday evening with the rain setting in once again.
The British number two was a break down early on in her decider but recovered to level the match before eventually losing in two hours 52 minutes.
A host of first round matches had remained outstanding due to the weather and there was mixed fortunes for some of the big names with 11th seed Timea Bacsinszky and 18th seed Sloane Stephens easing through in straight sets but 31st seed Kristina Mladenovic surprisingly beaten by world number 98 Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
