Johanna Konta will be aiming to go one better than last year at Wimbledon

British No 1 Johanna Konta has set her sights on Wimbledon title glory this summer, despite a poor start to 2018 which has seen her drop down the rankings.

Konta, who reached a career-high No 4 after reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals last year, has failed to build on her success so far this year with a quarter-final appearance in Brisbane her best showing.

After bowing out of the first round to Kazakh Yulia Putintseva in disappointing fashion at the French Open, Konta has dropped down to No 22 but will be hoping to find her form on the grass courts ahead of Wimbledon, which starts in three weeks time.

"I'm coming into this period with different challenges than I was last year. Last year coming into this period I had a lot of matches under my belt, a lot more matches than this year and a lot more wins than this year as well, so I think the challenges are slightly different," Konta told Sky Sports.

"Most importantly, I'm healthy and I'm feeling good. I'm really enjoying what I'm doing and the tennis I'm playing. I'm looking forward to taking part in every event here and going deep in every tournament."

The 27-year-old, who was denied the opportunity to become the first British woman to reach the Wimbledon final since Virginia Wade in 1997 by American veteran Venus Williams last summer, is determined to go one better this time around.

"Wimbledon is the pinnacle of this period, it's the crown jewel and I get to play in front of a home crowd this whole period, but at Wimbledon it's just that much more special," she said.

"I want to be there for the full two weeks. I would absolutely really want to be there for the full two weeks.

"Most importantly to keep working hard, keeping fighting. I'm enjoying that feeling of just going there and fighting my way through every round that I get a chance to play."
