Wimbledon: Andy Murray seeded third, Rafael Nadal 10th

Andy Murray has been named as the third seed for Wimbledon – but former champion Rafael Nadal is down at No 10.

Nadal, who has had a poor 2015, will therefore potentially meet one of the top eight seeds as early as the fourth round.

The Spaniard, who won Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010, has slipped to 10th in the world rankings. He was seeded No 2 last year at Wimbledon.

He lost in the first round of Queen's Club last week, after winning on grass in Stuttgart the previous week.

The seedings committee have broadly stuck with the world rankings in deciding the men's seedings. There is just one switch in the top 10: Milos Raonic, the world No 8, and David Ferrer, the No 7, swap places, with the big-serving Canadian expected to be more of a threat than the clay-court specialist.

Novak Djokovic’s coach Boris Becker says Andy Murray is in great form and must be one of the favourites for Wimbledon

There had been speculation that Murray could be made second seed, given his superb recent form, with Roger Federer dropping down to No 3. That would have ensured that the Brit could not be drawn against world No 1 and reigning Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic until the final.

As it is, Murray will have to wait to see which side of the drawn he is put in on Friday. French Open champion Stan Wawrinka is the fourth seed. He is not expected to be a title contender in London - he much prefers slower surfaces.

Serena Williams is the top seed in the women's draw, ahead of reigning champion and world No 2 Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova.
